CLTS Call Service 2018

The seminary’s annual Call Service will take place at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave, St. Catharines, on Saturday, 25 May 2019, 4.00pm. We heartily invite members of LCC, and especially friends and family of the students and award recipients, to attend this festive event.

Matthew Fenn will be certified to be called into the holy ministry and will receive his congregational placement in the service. Matt’s home congregation is First Lutheran Church, Windsor, whose pastor, former LCC President Rev. Robert Bugbee, will be the Call Service preacher. Matt is the first CLTS student to complete the Bachelor of Divinity degree through the external programme of the University of London (UK). His wife Laurin is completing the MTS degree at CLTS.

South African student Markus Peschel will receive his assignment to serve a year as vicar in an LCC congregation. This practical “internship” will enable him to experience a full cycle of congregational life. Other students will be recognised for their academic achievements.

The service will honour Rev. Paul Zabel, former President of LCC’s East District. The faculty and Board of Regents have chosen him to receive the Delta Chi (Servant of Christ) award, the seminary’s highest honour.

The seminary will also recognise Rev. Brian Dunlop with the Friend of the Seminary award. Pastor Dunlop, of Faith Lutheran Church, Desboro, ON, served for 15 years as a member of the CLTS Board of Regents.

Finally, we will bid farewell and Godspeed to Rev. Esko Murto, Assistant Professor of Theology, who has accepted a call to serve a congregation back in his native Finland. He and his wife Elisabeth will leave Canada in June.

Stay tuned for details about a live broadcast of the service over the internet.
