The seminary’s annual Call Service will take place at Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Ave, St. Catharines, on Saturday, 28 May 2022, 4.00pm. We heartily invite members of LCC, and especially friends and family of the students and award recipients, to attend this festive event.
Chad Miller will be certified to be called into the holy ministry and will receive his congregational placement in the service. Chad’s home congregation is Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Winnipeg, whose pastor, Rev. Cameron Schnarr, will be the Call Service preacher. Chad is a captain in the Royal Canadian Air Force who is preparing to become a chaplain. His placement will provide him with a two-year period of service as an ordained pastor in a Lutheran parish before he returns to full-time work in the Forces as a chaplain.
Vicarage is a year of full-time practical experience in a Lutheran congregation that deepens a student’s skills and knowledge of parish ministry. The vicarage placement for two students will be announced. Daniel Cunningham, a member of Clarington Lutheran Church who was raised at Grace, Oshawa, will receive the announcement of where he will serve in LCC. Trey Doak, of Denver, Colorado, who has completed all of his academic studies at the seminary, has already begun a vicarage in the LCMS, which will be formally announced at the service. Other students will be recognised for their academic achievements.
The service will honour Rev. Dr Wilhelm Torgerson, Assistant Pastor at First Lutheran Church, Windsor. The faculty and Board of Regents have chosen him to receive the Delta Chi (Servant of Christ) award, the seminary’s highest honour. Dr Torgerson, a native of Edmonton, served St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medicine Hat, AB (1971-75), then for 35 years in the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (SELK). Returning to Canada in 2011, he taught seminary students for eight years here in St. Catharines before accepting the call to Windsor.
The service will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. See our YouTube page.
