Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS), St. Catharines, is celebrating a milestone in its partnership with the seminaries of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Andrew Hayes has become the first student to participate in a six-month exchange program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (CSL).
This initiative provides students the unique opportunity to experience seminary life and pastoral formation within a different cultural context while remaining grounded in a shared Lutheran confession.
Academic & Spiritual Growth
Andrew reports that the semester has been academically rigorous, featuring courses on Reformation history, Creeds, and Old Testament under renowned scholars like Dr. Robert Kolb and Dr. Jason Lane. Beyond lectures, Andrew participates in a weekly “Formation Lab,” where small groups of students reflect on their growth toward the pastoral office.
“It has been a tremendous gift to study in a different setting,” Andrew shared. “Building relationships centred on God’s Word has been one of the most meaningful aspects of this experience.”
Life in “The Gateway to the West”

Life for Andrew extends well beyond the classroom. He has fully immersed himself in the CSL community by:
- Singing in the Chapel Choir and St. Louis Lutheran Chorale.
- Attending student favourites like “Prof’n’Steins” and preacher basketball games.
- Visiting local LCMS congregations to witness the Gospel in action.
From exploring the iconic Gateway Arch to enjoying the (much warmer!) Missouri spring, Andrew is gaining a global perspective on ministry. We pray that this exchange continues to strengthen the bond between our seminaries and enriches Andrew’s future service to the Church.
