Do you want to read the Old Testament with understanding? Beginning on Tuesday, 13 September 2011, 7:00pm, Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines, will open its doors to anyone interested in a guided tour through the Old Testament. The teacher will be Pastor Juhana Pohjola of Helsinki, Finland, who is a visiting scholar at the seminary this year.
Pastor Pohjola’s course on the New Testament was enthusiastically received last year, as he brings a deep pastoral wisdom and love for God’s Word to the task. His goal will be to help participants read the Old Testament in English. But considering the size of the testament, Pastor Pohjola will focus on distinct themes in Israel’s history, helping the readers to discern the Bible’s Law/Gospel message and its fulfilment in Christ. For those who wish to dig a little deeper, guided readings from a textbook will be provided.
The class meets once a week on Tuesdays from 13 September to 15 November. It is open to any interested laypeople at a cost of $100. No degree credit can be earned.
