The Spring Newsletter gives news on the placement of pastoral students into their congregations for service to Christ’s Church. This is the seminary’s primary purpose, so the annual call service is an exciting time.
President Winger also writes about the importance of high quality formation and certification of our pastor graduates. The seminary, likewise, is going through a process of certification so that we can give degrees in our own name. He comments:
The Apostle Paul holds up high standards for men who aspire to the office of the ministry, including the need to be “apt to teach” and to be “tested” (1 Tim. 3:1, 10). So also the seminary itself needs to be tested. While we highly value qualities like love, piety, and dedication in a good pastor, there is also objective truth to the Christian faith that must be taught rightly in order for people to be built up in the faith and preserved from dangerous errors. The seminary vigorously instils into its students a detailed and accurate knowledge of God’s Word, faithful adherence to the historic Christian confession, and the skills necessary to preach and lead the liturgy rightly. Be assured that the “certification” received by our graduates on call day is not given lightly. We entrust them confidently to you with the prayer that God will work through them to build up His church and keep it united in the true faith. Please pray for us and support us in carrying out this work.
In other news, we welcomed total-eclipse-day guests, and bade farewell to two long-serving staff members. The newsletter has been sent out to all congregations in Lutheran Church–Canada. You can read it online here. Please remember to support our mission as you consider your Christian giving. To make an online donation immediately, click here.
