Hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner theatre isn’t the sort of thing you’d normally associate with a seminary. But when Tara Lyn Hart, an accomplished recording artist and wife of seminarian Perry Hart, offered to use her performing skills to benefit the seminary, we couldn’t refuse. Her skills are a gift of God, and her desire to help the church in which she and her husband are serving is heart-warming.
On Friday, 11 February 2011, we hosted the third annual dinner and concert featuring Tara, with accompaniment by guitarist Hal Draper, and pianist Cindy Mewhinney (of Christ Lutheran, St. Catharines). The event was held at Hernder Estate Wines in a beautifully renovated Victorian barn. Some 140 people were in attendance.
The dinner is as much about “friend raising” as fund-raising. It has become a welcome annual tradition for members of area churches to get together and renew their ties. We are happy to be able to provide this opportunity. But it also gave our church members the chance to get to know our seminary students, staff, and faculty. Through a silent auction, donation envelopes, and particularly information about our 1000 Club campaign, the guests were encouraged to support the spiritual work of the seminary.
Tara Hart has also produced a CD of Christmas music to benefit the seminary. Copies are still available for $12 by calling the seminary at (905) 688-2362.
