Katherine (Kay) Tiffney (née Schneikart) passed away on Monday, 19 July 2021, at 90 years of age. Kay was the first seminary secretary, working with Dean Roger Humann from the seminary’s founding in 1976 in the building of Resurrection Lutheran Church until she retired in November 1995. Kay will be fondly remembered by former seminary students and their families across Lutheran Church–Canada as the mothering heart of the institution during those years. She was the first recipient of the Doulos Theou (Servant of God) award, established by the Concordia Seminary Student Association to recognise those who have been especially encouraging towards them in their formation for the pastoral office. She also received the Friend of the Seminary Award at the call service in 1996. Kay served with the Seminary Guild as editor of their newsletter from 1988 to 2015 and as secretary of the Guild from 1991 to 2008.

Kay and her late husband John (Jack), along with their young family, were charter members of Resurrection Lutheran Church in St. Catharines where she sang in the choir, was active in the Mary-Martha Society, and served as office secretary, historian, Sunday School Treasurer, and keeper of the Cradle Roll.

Retiring as Guild Newsletter Editor at Harvest Day 2015

Kay’s funeral will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Saturday, 24 July, 10am, with Rev. Kurt Lantz presiding and Dr Thomas Winger assisting. Christian burial will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery, Fonthill. For the family obituary and other funeral arrangements see the website of Haine Funeral Home and Chapel of Thorold, ON: http://hainefuneralhome.com/. With limited seating available at the church, pre-registration through the funeral home is required.

Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (see https://concordia-seminary.ca/support/ for options).
